Benefit Concert

The Boston-based non-profit organization Community Works is proud to present its seventh annual benefit concert, A Time for Love, at the Old South Church in Boston's Copley Square on Friday, May 19th at 7pm. Hosted by social justice advocate and Rosie's Place founder Kip Tiernan, the concert will feature four diverse Boston-area vocal ensembles and benefit Community Works, a partnership of 28 community-based member organizations committed to positive social change and serving the needs of their communities in Boston and beyond.

This year's list of performers represents the cultural and musical diversity of Boston and those served by Community Works and its member organizations. The concert will feature the Asian-American a cappella group The VariAsians, The Handel and Haydn Society Youth Chorus, and Rosie's Place Jazz Choir, with jazz vocalist/composer Mili Bermejo headlining the event and celebrating her June release, A Time for Love (Pentagrama), for the first time in Boston. The recording was chosen as a Pick of the Week by the Boston Herald's Bob Young, and inspired Cadence reviewer Alan Bargebuhr to call her "one of the most, if not the absolutely most, emotive singer of Latin Jazz music currently recording...the Latin equivalent of Abbey Lincoln."
